One of Joburg Ballet’s most admired productions, La Traviata-The Ballet by acclaimed choreographer Veronica Paeper, comes to the Teatro Montecasino for the first time for just five performances on 2, 3 and 4 August. Based on the romantic story of the Lady of the Camellias, La Traviata-The Ballet presents a deeply moving portrait of a woman who sacrifices all for the man she loves. Beautifully set in 19th century Paris, the ballet is danced to the ravishing music of Verdi’s great opera La Traviata, specially arranged and adapted for the ballet. Celebrated South African ballerinas Shannon Glover and Nicole Ferreira-Dill have announced they will retire
from the stage at the end of the upcoming season of La Traviata-The Ballet at the Teatro, Montecasino in early
August.
Shannon Glover’s retirement comes as she marks her 20th anniversary with Joburg Ballet while Nicole Ferreira Dill has been with the company for 17 years. Both have enjoyed acclaimed careers in which they were showcased in many leading roles and brought distinction not only to Joburg Ballet but to ballet in South Africa.
Commenting on their retirement, Joburg Ballet CEO Elroy Fillis-Bell said: “As we prepare to say goodbye to Shannon Glover and Nicole Ferreira-Dill during the season of La Traviata-The Ballet at Montecasino, we reflect with gratitude and admiration on what they have given to ballet, their great performances over many years and the magnificent role models they have been and will remain. Joburg Ballet wishes Shannon and Nicole happiness and fulfilment as they embark on the next chapters in their lives. We look forward to their many fans joining us to salute Shannon and Nicole as the curtain comes down for the last time.”
